Wooden bridges
Wood is a natural substance, easy to cut, work on and transport. such properties have caused it to be widely used in the past. it is still a widely used material benefiting even today from the possibilities offered by a changing technological environment. with their bearing properties, which enable them to be used for the crossing of voids, bridges made of wood- this time- honoured material- have been continuosly built, way back since the time ofthe hittites and the romans, and in places as diverse and distant from each other as palladio and 19th century america. one of the most common features of wooden bridges lies in the fact that they are usually covered, in order to augment their durability. woodeb bridges thus acquire a specific spatial identity, while the natural material they are made of gives them a symbolic meaning..
